We remodeled an original 1971 Kitchen and Family room to provide modern amenities and fit the family's lifestyle. This was an enjoyable challenge as we had to incorporate the French countryside, Southern California, and historic New England into the project.
The 1st floor kitchen laundry was moved to the basement to allow for a beautiful floor to ceiling double pantry. A peninsula with upper cabinets and a half wall were removed opening the kitchen to the family room. A double slider on the back wall of the kitchen was removed and replaced with a double-hung window (matching the rest of the house) to allow for more cabinet and counter space. Live edge walnut shelves were sanded, finished with 4 coats of polyurethane, and installed between upper cabinets.
There are many fine details in the kitchen including the lighting and tile layouts as well as the cook top bump out. New oak floors were installed to match the existing flooring.
The family room consisted of four walls of dark stained, pine, tongue and groove paneling. This paneling was removed from the front and back walls to open up the room. The gable wall paneling remained and was sanded, primed, caulked, and painted. A new fireplace door was installed as well as a new closet door. An in-wall AC unit was removed and sealed up.
The exterior aluminum wood grain siding used to fill in the AC unit as well as the sliding door was an exact match. Cedar faux beams were installed and stained and the room was trimmed using 1 by flat stock material. The entire first floor was painted and the floors finished using a stain and latex polyurethane.
